Canal Corridor Study
City of Scottsdale, AZ
Scottsdale’s canal banks have long been used as recreational corridors. Increasing population and growing canal bank use brought about the need to improve the user’s experience and provide ample opportunity for multi-modal transportation alternatives. Gavan & Barker prepared an assessment of Scottsdale’s canal corridors to establish the pathway alignments and develop design guidelines. The goal of the study was to provide a plan for enhanced and safer recreational pathways, connections, rest areas, signage, landscaping, artwork, and pedestrian bridges. The project included public meetings and the development of design guidelines for 8-miles of pathway development along the canals.
