Deer Valley Road
City of Phoenix, AZ
Gavan & Barker team members provided civil engineering and landscape architectural services for the design of Deer Valley Road from Cave Creek Road to 32nd Street. This segment of Deer Valley Road crosses over the Bureau of Reclamation’s floodwater dike that protects the CAP Canal. The roadway profile was designed to cut through Reclamation’s dike, which required unique design details and close coordination with both Reclamation and the CAP in order to realign the dike and rebuild the impermeable membrane liner that exists within the dike. The roadway design also included the design of two significant wash crossings; one designed with a concrete box culvert and the other designed as a temporary low water crossing with a dip section. A pedestrian underpass was also included in the design to provide a trail connection to the Reach 11 Recreation Area.
