Tatum Boulevard & Pinnacle Peak Road
City of Phoenix, AZ
Gavan & Barker provided civil engineering and landscape architectural services for the improvement of the Tatum Boulevard and Pinnacle Peak Road intersection. This intersection had a history of flooding which often made it impassable during storm events. This project included approximately 1.5 miles of interim roadway improvements to elevate the intersection and provide a box culvert crossing capable of conveying the 100-year flood. The interim improvements were designed to match the intersections ultimate grade. Work included hydrologic studies, hydraulic design, paving design, geotechnical analysis, detour design, and landscape design. The project was coordinated with the State Land Department and was designed to meet the requirements of State Land’s 404 permit for the Azara and Desert Ridge master planned communities. The paving and storm drainage improvements bring the intersection to its ultimate grade and protect it from flooding while providing for the future roadway widening.
