This past Friday, the Huitt-Zollars team revealed another fabulous outfit during the IIDA (International Interior Design Association) Houston City Center’s Product Runway event held at the Revention Music Center!
The Huitt-Zollars team spent many tireless nights in preparation of the event, creating a two-piece garment made with an applique floral that features a dragon winding its way around the silhouette of the coat. With China through the Looking Glass as the Met Costume Institute Gala-inspired theme assigned to the team, members designed the outfit using finish materials by Herman Miller and All Steel. Upholstery fabric was used as the base material of the pants and jacket. Plastic laminate and fabric mesh were used for the dragon and floral applique, and then sewn to the black upholstery material.
This event is also IIDA’s biggest fundraiser of the year! More than 1,000 industry peers attended and proceeds benefited the Houston Furniture Bank and the Texas Association for Interior Design (TAID).
The Huitt-Zollars team was comprised of Kyle Byrne, LaVell Fish, Corey Phelps, Tanvi Sharma, Katherine Strode, Mary Taylor Carwile (stylist), and Juan Ponce (model). Congratulations to everyone who participated this year!
More About Product Runway –
Product Runway is an “avant-garde couture fashion design competition with a twist.” The annual Met Costume Institute Gala inspired this year’s event and competition – Meet Me at the Met. Each of the participating IIDA Product Runway design teams, made up of interior design and architecture professionals and students, was assigned a prior Met Gala theme. Teams were then required to create handmade garments using standard architectural finish materials. During the event, each team models their own one of a kind creation. Each of the designs are also judged based on their overall design, construction and craftsmanship, plus relevance to the assigned theme.
