Architectural services were provided for the $157M renovation of Memorial City Mall. Notable among Houston's major regional shopping centers, this design-build project transformed it into one of Houston’s premier retail destinations and additional upscale anchor stores and lifestyle retailers such as Pottery Barn and Crate & Barrel were added.
A 55-foot soaring, domed rotunda with a clear glass oculus brings daylight into an intersection. A major amenity in the mall is the food court that occupies a renovated space within existing structure and a new addition. The design team created a new city center look and feel by incorporating interior streetscape circulation paths, streetscape elements, entertainment zones, mix of retailers, restaurants, waterscapes, play areas, and exterior dining. To keep customers apprised of the creative methodology, mCity Central was established. This unique departure from the traditional architectural process was a glass-enclosed, open-to-view design studio onsite and offered a "visible" storefront where plans and renderings were posted on an on-going basis.
This major renovation included adding the following amenities:
- NHL-size indoor ice skating rink
- Upscale restaurants
- Water features
- Movie theater
- Two-story Italian carousel
- 1,000-seat food court
- Skybridge link to Memorial Hermann Memorial City Medical Center
