Bell Road Paving

Huitt-Zollars initiated a field survey to update survey information developed by others and to generate required mapping for design of this two-mile section of Bell Road from 45th Street to 64th Street. The project scope included widening the roadway from four lanes to six lanes with curb, gutter, and sidewalk. Upgrades included field survey; drainage design and drainage structure design for 18-inch to 54-inch storm drain lines; landscaping and design of a raised, landscaped median and bus bays; relocation of a water main; and intersection plans with associated traffic signals.

US 191, Segment IV

US 191, between I-10 and Safford, is a typical two-lane rural arterial. Huitt-Zollars was retained to develop construction documents for Segments III and IV for a total of six miles. The existing roadway winds through rolling terrain with very little opportunities for passing slower trucks and RVs. Huitt-Zollars designed horizontal and vertical alignments, drainage structures, erosion control plans, cut and fill plans, and mass haul diagrams.

Tatum Boulevard

Huitt-Zollars was responsible for the relocation and improvement of Tatum Boulevard to a four-lane divided roadway with improved horizontal and vertical geometrics, and intersection improvements.  The project required careful alignment design to minimize adverse impact to adjacent property owners. Drainage analysis was a key element in the initial study, primarily due to a proposed grade separation to accommodate cross traffic.

State Route 87

Huitt-Zollars developed construction documents to reconfigure approximately two miles of SR-87 from a four-lane undivided segment to a four-lane divided highway, the only undivided portion of the 80-mile highway. The project is characterized as a grade, drain and pavement project, requiring the construction of a new divided roadway, extension of existing CMPs and box culverts, pavement preservation, safety and drainage improvements, and native plant salvaging and seeding.

Indefinite Delivery Contract, Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS)

Huitt-Zollars provided survey, design, and construction administration services for several delivery orders that include preparation of drawings, specifications, and estimates for two new guard houses and associated traffic lane improvements; roadway milling and overlay; roadway shoulder upgrading and repairs; sanitary sewer upgrades; and upgrades to runway overruns, taxiways, and shoulders.

Wellton Border Patrol Station

Huitt-Zollars provided full architectural and engineering design from design charrette to final bid documents (including construction drawings, specifications and design analysis). The disciplines included: civil, architecture, structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fueling, telecommunications/data, security, and landscaping. The facility was designed to meet LEED Silver certification and the Federal Government mandated energy and water use reduction requirements.

Marine Corps Air Station Drainage Facilities and Studies

Huitt-Zollars has provided drainage work associated with improvements and expansion of Marine Corps Air Station, in Yuma, Arizona, which is a joint-use airport with Yuma International Airport. Drainage analysis and design included stormwater retention basins in the infield between Taxiway I and Runway 17/35, between Taxiway A and 8/26, and at the intersection of Runways 8/26 and 17/35 at MCAS Yuma, Ordinance Access Roads Phases 1 and 2 and the entry road to the Cannon Air Defense Complex.

Gila Bend Auxiliary Field Runway at Luke Air Force Base

The Gila Bend Auxiliary Field Runway functions as an emergency landing option for military aircraft. The project scope included construction of a new 1,000-linear-foot concrete touchdown area at both runway ends, mill, and overlay for the remaining asphalt pavement, and construct asphalt shoulders along the new runway pavement. The total runway is 8,500 linear feet. Aircraft arresting gears are installed at both runway ends.

Phoenix Sky Harbor Taxiway C Infill and Connector

This project includes the construction of 2,170 linear feet of Taxiway C to infill from Taxiway C at Taxiway C3 easterly to Taxiway C at Taxiway C4. Also included was the construction of asphalt concrete aircraft parking aprons totaling approximately 50,000 SY. Connector Taxiway C4 is a new connector taxiway between Taxiway B and project Taxiway C West Infill. The new connector taxiway will facilitate use of the high speed exit from Runway 8-26.
