Huitt-Zollars prepared construction plans to widen 1.5 miles of highway, including a major intersection expansion at Antonio Parkway/La Pata Avenue. The work included developing new traffic signals, utility relocations, storm water drainage improvements, and right-of-way plans. Significant earthwork was required to build the roadway in mountainous terrain. Plans were prepared in accordance with Caltrans’ plan set requirements. Huitt-Zollars was responsible for topographic mapping and prepared the right-of-way requirement mapping. Huitt-Zollars was also responsible for the hydrology and hydraulics reports and calculations. A complex project element included the utility relocations. Huitt-Zollars prepared all U-Sheets for the Caltrans plan set and multiple relocations of utilities in conflict with road design. Multiple plan sets were prepared for water, sewer, and storm drain, coordinating ultimate adjacent development needs so they could be constructed prior to or concurrent with the construction schedule.
