Upon completion of a modeling and alignment study, Huitt-Zollars provided design services including field surveying, utility coordination, SUE, video inspection, preliminary engineering, final engineering, traffic control plans, and cost estimating for the replacement of a water transmission line along Shorecrest Drive and Lemmon Avenue. The project included 7,500 linear feet of 48-inch (154-LF Bore), 990 linear feet of 24-inch and 2,250 feet of 12-inch waterlines. Appurtenances included 48-inch butterfly valves, 24-inch/12-inch gate valves, access manholes, air release/blow off valves and fire hydrants. Some of the design challenges included limited right-of-ways, various existing utilities within roadways, minimum utility corridor to place proposed water mains and the lack of existing as-built information. The improvements allowed for the abandonment of an existing 70-year-old, 36-inch water main crossing Dallas Love Field Airport, thus improving operations to Dallas Water Utilities and the Department of Aviation.
