CHRISTUS Moran Health Center

The San Jose Clinic, located in Houston’s Midtown District, is the oldest continually operating free health clinic in the United States. The Midtown District is in the process of revitalization and architectural and interior design services were provided to CHRISTUS that support and reflect that revitalization. Note the updated design of the windows in relation to existing architecture. Driven by a desire to meet patients' needs, the building supports the personal component of healthcare.

Maneuver Systems Sustainment Center

The Maneuver Systems Sustainment Center (MSSC) is a $70 million new facility that achieves consolidation of multiple functions into a single 377,000-square-foot, seven-building facility on approximately 15 acres of site development. In addition to the design of the building and site, Huitt-Zollars was responsible for programming, layout, and design of approximately $20 million of highly specialized process-related equipment.

Fort Bliss Replacement Hospital

The Fort Bliss Replacement Hospital is designed to be an approximately $960 million, 1.13 million-square-foot world-class medical facility replacing the existing William Beaumont Army Medical Center at Fort Bliss. Originally conceived as an integrated facility combining the space requirements of the El Paso VA Medical Center and those of the existing William Beaumont facility, the decision was made in July 2010 to move forward with the project as a DoD-only programmed facility.

Fort Bliss Expansion Program

The 2005 Base Realignment and Closure Commission (BRAC) initiative targeted the Army Installation of Fort Bliss, Texas to receive an influx of nearly 30,000 troops, ultimately totaling six new Brigade Combat Teams. Many compared the Fort Bliss Expansion Program to building a small city from the ground up. The $4.8 billion program encompassed 4,500 acres of greenfield development, 130 projects, and 300 facilities, totaling 11 million square feet of new buildings.

Corpus & Kingsville Border Patrol Stations

Huitt-Zollars was retained to be the author of each design-build RFP in compliance with the Border Patrol Design Guidelines. In addition, Huitt-Zollars' scope was expanded to that of project integrator. Acting as stewards for the concurrent projects and interpreting the design intent behind each RFP, Huitt-Zollars worked closely with CBP, USACE, and the design-build teams during design and pre-construction to ensure the end result met the intended design goals and guideline requirements were being maintained. Huitt-Zollars provided construction support for the Corpus Christi site.

Brownsville Border Patrol Station

Huitt-Zollars conducted a design charrette for a new Brownsville Border Patrol station and developed design plans for a prototypical station. For the second phase of the project, Huitt-Zollars developed a design/build RFP for the Brownsville Station. The program developed for the station combined space for agents and their administrative support, locker and exercise space, an armory, muster and training space, public interaction, and interim detention.

Del Rio Border Patrol Station & Sector HQ

Immigration and Naturalization Services Facilities Group, through a contract with the Fort Worth District Corps of Engineers, selected Huitt-Zollars to master plan and design a new Sector Headquarters facility in Del Rio, Texas. The design encompassed a facility to house 220 agents on a 23.2-acre site. The Sector Headquarters building (45,348 square feet) housed the management, administration, intelligence, training, communications, and property seizure personnel and served the complex as the point of public visitor interface.

Mickey Leland Federal Building

The 25-year-old federal building called for a comprehensive modernization and upgrade. The 22-story building was more than 95% occupied and maintained full functionality during the project.  Huitt-Zollars provided overall project management and administration to develop the design-build Request for Proposal, assisted with the bidding process, distributed bid documents, organized and led site visits and project presentations to the bidders, and created a construction cost estimate and developed a construction schedule.
