Texas
Sh-190 President George Bush Turnpike, Segment XXV
Huitt-Zollars prepared construction plans for the construction of a new location six-lane freeway approximately two miles in length. The corridor connects the IH-35E and IH-635 freeways. Design plans included storm drainage, paving plan and profiles, culverts, bridges, four exit ramps, ramp toll plazas, and a detention pond grading plan. This project included seven bridges; two stream crossings; two structures adjacent and over the river east levee embankment; two ramp structures; and one elevated parkway structure.
Loop 12/IH-30 Interchange Expansion
Huitt-Zollars designed this project to replace the existing IH-30 mainlanes with new mainlanes as identified in the Loop 12/IH-30 ultimate design schematic. The project’s focus filled the gap between two construction projects with ultimate mainlane configuration that meets the future four-level interchange criteria. Huitt-Zollars designed the bridges to accommodate future direct connector, HOV lane, and railroad bridge bents.
IH-10 Interchange Redd Road
Huitt-Zollars provided PS&E preparation of the Redd Road Diamond Interchange at IH-10. This urban highway design included a new overpass, four ramps, mainlanes, improvements to existing frontage roads, and a three-span superstructure bridge utilizing TxDOT's new U beams. Special architectural treatments were utilized on the traffic rail, substructure elements, and retaining wall approaches. Plans included horizontal and vertical geometry, extensive retaining wall bridge design, surveying, signing, pavement marking, traffic signals, illumination, and traffic control planning.
University Boulevard South Bridge
Huitt-Zollars provided surveying, traffic engineering, roadway, utility, and bridge design, bidding and construction phase services for 1.75 miles of the new University Boulevard South from Commonwealth Boulevard through Brazos Landing to the City of Sugar Land’s city limits. Huitt-Zollars prepared the preliminary and design documents (plans, specifications and estimate) for the construction of the new four-lane arterial with raised medians, curb and gutter with sidewalks on both sides. Scope of work included three significant bridges.
SH 114 Signature Bridge
Huitt-Zollars is providing design services for enhancements to the SH 114 Bridge being constructed as part of the Diamond Interchange project. Huitt-Zollars will undertake a concept scoping process in determining the extent of "signature" elements based on the available budget and community input. Once the project scope is determined, the design will create a "signature bridge" addressing connectivity issues for pedestrian, bicycle, and vehicular traffic between the former site of Texas Stadium and the future DART Orange Line LRT Station.
Pedestrian Bridge Over Ditch "C"
Huitt-Zollars prepared the design and construction documents for the construction of a 120-foot single span, 8-foot-wide prefabricated pedestrian bridge with ornamental railing over Ditch “C” in Sugar Land, Texas. Project work included demolition of an existing deteriorated wooden bridge and piling, construction of reinforced concrete abutments, sidewalks, storm water drainage system, and sodding.
Margaret McDermott Pedestrian Bridge
As part of the City of Dallas’ Balanced Vision Plan for the Trinity River Floodplain Corridor, the MMD bridges are the second signature bridges in Dallas designed by internationally renowned architect, engineer and artist Santiago Calatrava. The parallel twin MMD bridges consist of two thrust arches that span 1,125 feet and rise 285 feet above the bridge deck. The 20-foot, four-inch bridge width features a 7-foot raised sidewalk and 11-foot dual bike lanes. Huitt-Zollars served as the Structural Engineer-of-Record for these signature bridges adjacent to downtown Dallas.
Margaret Hunt Hill Bridge
Huitt-Zollars served as the Structural Engineer-of-Record for this signature bridge adjacent to downtown Dallas. The bridge is part of the Woodall Rodgers Freeway (Spur 366) extension across the Trinity River floodplain. The 1,200-foot cable-stayed bridge has a 430-foot-tall arch pylon, supporting the six travel lane superstructure. The deck cross section consists of a central box girder, cantilevered transverse steel floor beams, longitudinal stringers and a concrete deck. Huitt-Zollars was a subconsultant to Santiago Calatrava, the prime designer.
Los Rios Boulevard Bridge
Huitt-Zollars was selected by the City of Plano to prepare plans and specifications for the widening of 4,000 linear feet of Los Rios Boulevard from four lanes to six lanes, and to replace the bridge over Rowlett Creek. Several alternative bridge lengths were analyzed to determine the optimum opening that would permit passage of the 100-year flood event without flooding the approaches to the bridge, or flooding residences in the adjacent, single-family subdivision both upstream and downstream. The proposed 400-foot structure will replace an existing undersized, 75-foot-long structure, with
