Dallas VA Medical Center Expansion

Huitt-Zollars provided design services for the 606,340-square-foot expansion and 486,290-square-foot renovation. Results of a Huitt-Zollars study were incorporated into the design of a new Central Energy Plant. The project incorporated a campus wide Energy Management System. The electrical design included 480v and 15 KV distribution systems. A 600 KW emergency generator unit powers essential plant loads during commercial utility outages.

Maintenance of Federally Assisted Channels

Huitt-Zollars is providing engineering and construction phase services for the Maintenance of Federally Assisted Channels. These flood control, navigational, and coastal protection facilities were originally constructed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), Galveston District. Annually, as well as after significant rainfall events, Huitt-Zollars conducts an in-depth condition assessment inspection.

Lone Star College of Energy & Manufacturing Institute

Programming and architectural design services were provided for a 70,000-SF high-tech workforce training facility created for the energy industry. The project includes 28 classroom/laboratory spaces equipped with compressed air, 120V and 208V power and audio/video systems for engineering technology, automated manufacturing and corporate college programs, two simulation labs for drilling and crane operation, a high bay manufacturing area with a 20-ton rail crane, machine shops, quality control lab, and an administrative/faculty suite. Associate Architects: AUTOARCH Architects and Archi*Techn

1001 Fannin

First City Tower is a 1,449,000-SF parallelogram-shaped building occupying a full city block. The 49-story structure is set diagonally, providing exceptional views of downtown Houston while contributing to the cityscape. Architectural and interior design services were provided for this project. The exterior is clad in one-inch-thick “honeycomb” aluminum panels coated with a highly durable, non-stick substance, and insulated reflective glass.

Regent Square

Architectural services were provided for this 24-acre walkable mixed-use urban village located near downtown Houston in the historic Montrose district. The master plan encompasses a four-block site designed as a pedestrian-oriented environment with amenities such as shop fronts, cafes, and restaurants located on tree-lined streets.

Plano Transit Village

Plano Transit Village offers a unique alternative for living and commuting in a large metropolitan area. Huitt-Zollars provided the design of streetscape consisting of trees on 25-foot centers, pedestrian scale streetlights on 75-foot centers and brick sidewalks on a concrete base. This project also included the design of perimeter drainage to collect roof downspouts and courtyard area drains. Extensive coordination with DART officials and their engineering consultants was necessary to assure compatibility between the designs.

Downtown and East Downtown Houston Livable Centers Study

This study included economic strategy, market analysis, public involvement, planning, and architecture for a Livable Centers Study focusing on an 11 x 16 block in Downtown & East Downtown Houston. It addressed the need to increase private and residential development; create walkable, mixed-use places; increase transportation and economic growth while improving the quality of the environment. A long-term plan was created along with a roadmap to strengthen and link the existing centers of activity with the study area.

University of Texas School of Law Library

Jesse H. Jones Hall is one of three buildings occupied by the UT School of Law with each building featuring a different architectural style and character. Morris, a Huitt-Zollars company, was commissioned to design office space to accommodate additional faculty and program directors. The commission also includes the restack/consolidation of the library from six floors to three floors. The UT Law Library is the largest in the U.S.

RR Donnelley Renovation

As a global, integrated communications provider, RR Donnelley develops and executes multichannel communication strategies on behalf of their clients. Morris, a Huitt-Zollars company, was tasked with designing their new office facility in Houston, Texas. The goal was to offer top-of-the-line comfort to accommodate clients for long periods of time, and to make their stay as a pleasant as possible. From cubicles and private offices to state-of-art conference rooms and hoteling services, “elegance” and “comfort” were the key words chosen for the style of their new location.

Oil and Gas Office Space

The client, an independent oil and gas company, expanded its business into West Texas. Environmental elements were critical design factors for a new energy efficient facility. Prefinished architectural concrete and aluminum wall panels shift thermal heat gain and create a barrier resistant to the local temperature variations and windblown abrasives. Thermal "low e" insulated/tinted glazing was utilized with window blinds and horizontal solar canopies. A large roof eyebrow protects the building from harsh daytime sun while simultaneously reducing heat gain.
