Houston TranStar Facility

As one of the first high-tech transportation and emergency management centers in the United States, this three-level, 52,000-SF facility handles all traffic and emergency management control within metropolitan Houston. The building facade was designed to withstand hurricane force winds; the mechanical system design allows the facility to operate independently during a power blackout or emergency conditions.

Brenham Police Department Building

Huitt-Zollars served as the Project Manager for the City of Brenham’s new 25,000-square-foot, $6.6 million Police Department Building. This two-story facility houses the City’s Police Department and Jail.  Huitt-Zollars assisted the City in the procurement of the Design Architect and a Construction Manager at Risk. Although initially a CMAR project, the City chose to fully complete the design and publicly bid the project. Huitt-Zollars supported the City with technical expertise during the design development, preparation of construction documents and the construction phases of the project.<

Chisholm Trail Parkway, Section 3B

Huitt-Zollars, as an extension of the NTTA staff, provided construction engineering and inspection services for a major highway interchange project on Chisholm Trail Parkway (SH-121) at the IH-20/SH-183 split on the southwest side of Fort Worth, Texas. Section 3B ($92.5M) is one of six sections of the new, 26-mile corridor which runs from downtown Fort Worth to Cleburne, Texas, and consists primarily of main lanes and direct connector construction.

Dallas Love Field Modernization Program

Huitt-Zollars served as Lead Civil Engineer for landside improvements included with the program to develop a new 20-gate air carrier terminal for the airport. The project included widening the Cedar Springs Drive entrance roadway, new water and wastewater utilities, reconstruction of the Aviation Place service roadway, surface parking, traffic signals, pedestrian tunnels, landscaping, walls, ADA compliance, signage, and ITS systems. Drainage improvements eliminated roadway inundation problems.

US 77 Reconstruction

Huitt-Zollars was the Lead Designer for this $74 million Design-Build project for the Texas Department of Transportation.  This project upgraded the existing non-controlled access facility to interstate highway standards.  The highway is now designated as Interstate Highway 69. This eight-mile project included expanding the freeway to four lanes and improving the existing US Highway 77 to serve as continuous frontage roads.

Robinson Bayou Bioengineering Stabilization

Huitt-Zollars provided services for improvements to mitigate erosion problems along the tidally influenced Robinson Bayou. The project used adjacent City property to mitigate flows while providing pedestrian trails and a bridge. Preliminary Engineering Phase included field investigations, surveys, geotechnical investigations, drainage analysis, tree survey, utility coordination, coordination with the US Army Corps of Engineers, Texas Department of Transportation and General Land Office of Texas, and preparation of three conceptual designs with cost estimates.

Palisades Drainage Master Plan

Huitt-Zollars completed a Master Plan for a 200-acre natural open space canyon acquired by EPWU. Huitt-Zollars investigated the existing conditions in the canyon, which included an existing dam, vegetation and wildlife, hiking trails, access roads, and a culvert at Robinson Road. Huitt-Zollars performed preliminary drainage calculations and determined watershed areas, runoff volumes, and sediment transport potential. Defined infrastructure needs for the Master Plan include expansion of the dam, channelization, sediment basin, and larger culvert.
