Water Treatment Plant Administration Building

Huitt-Zollars provided civil, architectural, interior, and landscaping design and survey services to CDM Smith for the City of Sugar Land’s largest capital improvement project ever completed by the City. The $69 million surface water treatment plant is at the intersection of Voss and Burney Roads adjacent to Gannoway Lake. The main plant size is 41 acres. Located on the site are the following buildings and structures: Administration/Membrane Building, Chemical Building, Sludge Building, Floc/Sed structure, GAC structure, Main Electrical Distribution Building and a Maintenance Building.

Harris County Juvenile Justice Center

Architectural services were provided for the renovation of the Harris County Criminal Courts Building into a Juvenile Justice Center. The approximately 337,000 SF facility includes the renovation of adult trustee beds to 215 juvenile beds. The facility is used by the Juvenile Probation Department, Juvenile Detention, Precinct 1 Justice of the Peace, Precinct 1 Constable, and Juvenile District Courts.

Harris County Jail

Programming, space planning, and complete architectural and interior design services were provided for the conversion of a of a 63-year-old warehouse building from a 350,000-SF cold storage warehouse into a 620,000-SF jail housing 4,000 inmates with eight stories above grade plus basement. This was the highest number of inmates housed in a single facility in the U.S. at the time.

Great Wolf Lodge

Huitt-Zollars provided survey, engineering, and construction administration services for the original and expanded facility, a feasibility study, design of water and sewer lines, storm drainage, and grading plans. Huitt-Zollars conducted meetings with the city staff, franchise utility providers, and the Texas Department of Transportation to determine the steps necessary for design, and handled demolition plans and specifications to clear a 175,513-SF multi-story building. Construction plans included topographic survey, final plat, site dimensional control, a 12-inch off-site water line, on-

Gaylord Texan Resort and Conference Center

Huitt-Zollars handled several phases of civil design and construction administration, for the 60-acre Gaylord Texan Resort & Conference Center. Huitt-Zollars continues to provide services for ongoing expansion, such as the addition of the Glass Cactus, an upscale nightclub and music venue located on the Gaylord grounds. The resort features a 1,511-room hotel; 400,000 SF of meeting, convention, exhibition and pre-function space; two ballrooms at 49,500 and 32,200 SF; 176,400 SF of exhibition space; two executive boardrooms; and more than 61 meeting and breakout rooms.

Moody Gardens Hotel

Moody Gardens is a destination attraction with a master plan and design that has spanned over 20 years. As part of the ongoing work at the 242-acre Moody Gardens Campus, Morris was commissioned to renovate the hotel guest rooms, corridors, and suites throughout the property (the hotel was previously designed by the firm). The scope of services includes 425 guest rooms as well as updates to some of the public areas including the lobby and terrace restaurant.

Westin Memorial City

Architecture and interior design services were incorporated into this upscale, high-rise hotel strategically located adjacent to the burgeoning I-10 Energy Corridor. The hotel serves as the flagship within the Gateway Center, part of a 200-acre Memorial City development. Condominiums are located on top of the hotel and accessible via a separate entrance and elevator. The Westin’s signature amenities are incorporated in the 267 guest rooms; 30,000-SF of meeting and banquet accommodations; a 10,000-SF ballroom; and an adjacent parking garage connected by a pedestrian bridge.

Marriott Marquis Convention Center Hotel

The Marriott Marquis Houston Convention Center Hotel is a game-changer in Houston’s convention district. Architectural services were provided for the 1.1 million-SF building that includes 1,000 guestrooms and 105,000 SF of meeting space linked by sky bridge to the George R. Brown Convention Center. Envisioned as a meeting destination and an urban resort, the Hotel features an extraordinary 90,000-SF indoor/outdoor amenity level 115 feet above street level.

US 77 Reconstruction Design/Build/Maintain

Huitt-Zollars served as Lead Designer for this $74 million project to upgrade an existing non-controlled access facility to interstate standards and is now designated as IH 69. The eight mile project included adding a four-lane freeway and improving the existing US 77 to serve as continuous frontage roads. It also included adding 14 new bridges, widening existing bridges over existing outfall channels, and construction of over 9,900 LF of retaining walls.

County Road 104

The construction of a new high school in the area accelerated the need to address roadside safety issues. Huitt-Zollars provided full-time construction engineering and inspection services for a one-mile section of County Road 104 in Williamson County. Project elements included the reconstruction of a two-lane rural roadway into a three-lane roadway, incorporation of one lane of traffic in each direction with shoulders, a continuous left-turn lane, and reconstruction of two bridges spanning a creek.
