Moody Gardens Rainforest

Design services were provided for the tropical rainforest conservatory, located on Galveston Island. The simplicity of the glass-skinned pyramid conceals its complex technical design; steel truss framing and the three-quarter inch glass envelope can withstand 120-mile-per-hour winds – significant possibilities in this coastal area. The ten-story structure houses one acre under glass enabling guests to experience the African, American, and Asian rainforest regions.

Moody Gardens Aquarium

Complementing the existing pyramids of Moody Gardens, the two-million-gallon Aquarium enhances the complex in architectural form and interior design. A sculptural wave wall invites visitors to the aquarium entrance. The Aquarium experience is composed of geometric forms with honest expressions of circulation, direction, and exhibition. The exterior is composed of blue glass to reinforce the aquatic theme while differentiating the Aquarium from the existing pyramids.

Solana Business Park

Huitt-Zollars provided extensive surveying and civil engineering in order to produce a set of master plans for the development. All property lines, easements, building, drives, parking and underground utilities were identified. Solana is a 900-acre master planned business park. Corporate campus planning integrates mixed use retail and hotel. Buildings are carefully surrounded by open space and forested areas, promoting views of the natural landscape.

Buried utility lines maximize tree exposure, green landscaping, and lake views within the park.

Oil and Gas Office Space

The client, an independent oil and gas company, expanded its business into West Texas. Environmental elements were critical design factors for a new energy efficient facility. Prefinished architectural concrete and aluminum wall panels shift thermal heat gain and create a barrier resistant to the local temperature variations and windblown abrasives. Thermal "low e" insulated/tinted glazing was utilized with window blinds and horizontal solar canopies. A large roof eyebrow protects the building from harsh daytime sun while simultaneously reducing heat gain.

Houston Downtown Office Space

This 24,827 square-foot space was designed to provide optimal flexibility for employee growth while integrating modern features like glass offices and open north views to the city. The bi-product of cohesive architectural and engineering design, the space welcomes collaboration and innovation through an open workplace and meets sustainable industry standards using sustainable materials and methods.

Financial Company Office Space

A Beaumont based e-commerce start-up was established to help brands and entrepreneurs succeed online. A merger created one of the most robust and feature rich platforms in the e-commerce industry. The design team was challenged with creating an “out-of-the-box” start-up office linked to a more refined corporate culture with established brand standards.
